Description

EBE ca.1929 172cc OHV frame # 514 engine # 1579

The EBE motorcycle factory was a small company that was situated in the Swedish town of Åmål. From 1919 auxiliary engines were made and in 1925 the production of 172cc ohv and 596cc sv engines and complete motorcycles was started.
The 172 cc ohv model was a popular machine in its day because it was exempt from tax due to its weight of less than 50 kg and for such motorcycles a driving license was not needed.
EBE engines were also used by other makes, notably Monark.
Production ended around 1930.
This little EBE is an interesting machine: the frame is constructed from straight tubes that are bolted together and the front suspension is provided by a leaf spring.
The EBE is very low due to its small wheels, fitted with 24×2 beaded edge tyres.
The 172cc ohv engine with outside flywheel is very lively and produces the sound of a real vintage sports model.
Carburettor is Brown & Barlow, gearbox Sturmey Archer.
This authentic lightweight motorcycle has been restored at some time in the past and gives the impression it has not been tampered with.
