The first Royal Enfield motorised tricycles and quadricycles were equipped with De Dion Bouton engines and left the factory as early as 1898. Other propietary engines used in Royal Enfields in the early 1900s were Minerva and MAG. During the boom in the years after the Great War, when the demand for cheap and reliable transport was huge, Royal Enfield marketed a lightweight, yet adequately powered model.
Many factories offered lightweight models, but the 225cc Royal Enfield had some features that made it stand out among its competitors: 2 speed gearbox, footboards with legshields and chain drive.
This machine is an older restoration and would be a good choice for the enthousiast who wishes to purchase an affordable and uncomplicated vintage motorcycle.
