Description

Griffon 1900ca Gentleman’s bicycle frame # 46421
The firm was established in 1898 by Eugène Peugeot who had fallen out with his cousin Armand. The word “Griffon” translates as “Griffin”, the mythical animal typically having the head, forepart, and wings of an eagle and the body, hind legs, and tail of a lion. Griffon would become one of the major French bicycle and motorcycle producers. This bicycle has been sympathetically preserved and has a nice authentic aura. It comes with wooden mudguards; the 1903 Griffon catalogue lists mudguards as extra equipment. Steel ones will cost you an additional six Francs, wooden are more expensive at eight Francs. A New Departure coaster brake is fitted and the cycle is fitted with an authentic leather saddle and leather tool pouch. To make the machine safe to ride, the spokes have been renewed.
