Description

Loop frame “Rotary Type” tricycle circa 1885

This black painted tricycle with tubular frame is of unidentified manufacture.
The rear axle cross-tube is fitted with an adjustable sprung metal seat pan with leather saddle cover and raised back
support.
The pedals are open with red rubber blocks and are fitted to an off-set crankshaft.
There’s a driving chain on the left side to the 48 inch radially spoked driving wheels that have a track of 31 inch.
The steering is effected by rack and pinion gearing on the right, via an adjustable stirrup handle with turned wooden grip.
There’s a matching stirrup handle on the left next to the wooden grip lever that actuates the band brake.
The crescent rimmed front wheel has a mudguard and footrests.
The upper ends of the frame are finished as spade mount lamp .
A trailing arm mounted from under the joint between the main cross tube
is fitted with a small support wheel. This interesting tricycle is in good overall condition.
